Arugam Bay is a fishing village on the Eastern coast just 3km from Pottuvil town. You can reach Arugam Bay from Monaragala on A4 and from Batticaloa. It is believed to be the best surfing area in Sri Lanka. It is developing into a major tourist attraction mainly because of the beach which tourists visit throughout the year. The surfing season is April to September. Almost all the guest houses and hotels are operative and full during this season. You can also rent boats to go on boat trips.
Crocodile Rock is famous, as you can see wild elephants at almost any given time. You can see elephants on the Monaragala - Pottuvil road and Batticaloe - Pottuvil road. You can reach Lahugala National Park (about 16km on A4 road) and Yala National Park from here.
