Sri Muthumariamman Thevasthanam Hindu Temple

Sri Muthumariamman Thevasthanam is a temple or Kovil 56 located in Matale city that is known for the colorful chariots located at the temple, Its history goes back to over 300 years. The Masi Mahotsava annual festival of the Kovil is in the month of February and lasts for about 25 days, Thousands of Hindu devotees visit this ceremony and all are provided with food by the temple.


It is said that this location of the present temple was used by the south Indian immigrants, who came to the island looking for jobs. There is an entrance fee to the Kovil and the collection goes to a fund which is allocated for education at the early childhood development centre and the vocational training centre conducted by the temple free of charge.
